Which if you know me in real life may or may not be surprising. It was so pretty in fact, that I almost didn’t even want to clutter it up with ornaments and decorations. This tree arrived and I set it up, and it was the most gorgeous thing ever. Unfortunately, that isn’t the way this went.

There is nothing I love more than turning a popular notion or mentality about something on it’s head. Tinsel trees are often the thing of children’s holiday decor and the small inexpensive items you lett your kids get for the fun of it. Also, if you want to know the honest truth, I thought it would be fun to take an otherwise tacky tree made of silver tinsel, and turn it into a chic bit of holiday decor. I knew the gold would be beautiful, but since most of my ornaments and accessories in the space this tree would sit are gold, I thought the Silver would be a nice contrast. It’s funny actually because I debated whether to go with the gold or silver tree. This stunner is the 7 foot Tinkerbell Tree from Treetopia and it is the most special tree I have ever seen. Or gorgeous enough for a lot of words… how about that. The phrase 'Merry Christmas' is mostly used in the United States while 'Happy Christmas' is more popular in the United Kingdom as both the phrases have changed and evolved with time.You got a bit of a peak at my stunning silver tree here, but I thought I would show you a bit more because this tree is just more gorgeous than words. The term 'merry' has become so popular and intrinsically associated with Christmas now that just hearing it takes us to Christmas celebrations! Victorian Christmas has defined many traditions and customs of Christmas and this is one of them.

In the same year, the phrase started to show up in commercial Christmas cards. In the 16 th century, the phrase ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ was mentioned in the Charles Dickens novel ‘A Christmas Carol’ in the year 1843, which was a big reason for its popularity since then. The letter dates back to at least 1534 in London. Moreover, the bishop John Fisher in a letter to Henry VIII’s chief minister Thomas Cromwell wished 'Merry Christmas'. The reason is based on what the language signifies - 'happy' is an emotion, while 'merry' is a behaviour. Historical reasonsįurther, historians believe that the earlier church leaders in Great Britain encouraged Christian followers to be 'happy' instead of 'merry'. Some say that the word 'merry' is related to the rowdiness of the underprivileged classes, whereas 'happy' is based on a higher-class connotation especially because it is associated with the royal family wishing ‘Happy Christmas’.
